Working with individuals & employers sharing information on mental illness and how to foster a stigma free environment
I grew up in a time when mental illness was stigmatized, hidden, and not spoken about. It took me years to accept my illness and now I want to/need to help others do the same. I humbly offer my story to all in my book, Shades, and through my public speaking.
Since publishing my book, Shades, Living with Mental Illness, I am committed to bringing public awareness to this illness and dissipating the stigma attached to it.
Having worked in the disability community for 23 years, advocating for diversity, I have now chosen to focus on my own disability; mental illness. I hope by sharing my story
Since publishing my book, Shades, Living with Mental Illness, I am committed to bringing public awareness to this illness and dissipating the stigma attached to it.
Having worked in the disability community for 23 years, advocating for diversity, I have now chosen to focus on my own disability; mental illness. I hope by sharing my story I can help others find their voice and strength with all aspects of this often hidden disease.
I have shared my story and journey many times through distance via various technologies to a variety of organizations; from grassroots to several government departments speaking about the importance of diversity.
I speak to recognizing, accommodating and working with someone living with mental illness from a first hand perspective of lived experience with this illness.
As a writer and well respected, entertaining speaker, I will bring a real life, engaging story filled with struggle, triumph, sorrow, joy and laughter to your audience. Contact me, and we can design a workshop or presentation that fits the needs that you have today.
"When Nikki Langdon gives a talk, she draws you into her life in a way that is not at all self-centered. Her life experiences are both unique and universal and that is why she is compelling without even trying to be. She projects warmth and a sense of humour that is both warm and engaging. You will enjoy her and you will learn from her."
David Roche, C.M.
"Personal. Powerful. Lighthearted. Heavy-hitting. These are some words that come to mind when I think of Nikki Langdon and the way she captivates her audiences. She keeps it real, while peppering in moments of levity that allow the listener to digest their feelings and take a moment to understand the weight of the subject matter. Mental illness is not easy to talk about with anyone, never mind a room full of teary-eyed strangers. Nikki makes it known to her audiences that it is okay to be emotional because, Nikki herself takes moments to collect herself, breathe, and continue, all the while being completely candid with her audience about how difficult it still is to talk about her life with mental illness. Nikki speaks genuinely and openly, welcoming everyone to walk beside her as she shares her life’s journey. She’s vivacious and infectious and I hope everyone has the opportunity to see Nikki speak in some capacity. She’s truly a joy and an inspiration."

“Nikki has a great skill of demonstrating the impact of living with mental health in a way that is powerful and informative and connects at a really human level. Her courageous sharing of her own story opens up discussions that need to be held as we all commit to a better world without mental health stigmatization and shaming.”
Dawn Martin, Executive DirectorRegina Community Clinic
I have had the privilege of knowing Nikki for over 15 years. During those 15 years, it was not until 2022
when her book was written and released that I knew Nikki struggled with mental health. Of course, I
bought her book right away via kindle. I must confess I really purchased the book to support my friend
but truly found the book shocking and inspiring at the same time. Shocking because I did not realize my
friend had gone through and continued to go through these struggles, inspired because she did
something about it. Not only did she continue to seek the appropriate help when there were times she
wanted to give up, but she put her story out there to help other people.
When I attended the VRA conference in Toronto in June 2022 and heard my friend speak, it was so
powerful.
Nikki’s message to the world about mental health and the stigma around it, is both inspiring and
empowering. She wonderful way of expressing her story through humour, tears and laughter is a true
testimony to her endurance and leadership. Thank you for sharing you story with us. Together and only
together will we have a better world without mental health stigma.

I am very pleased to provide a review of Nikki’s presentation entitled “Living with
Mental Illness: A personal Journey”.
I heard Ms. Langdon deliver the presentation twice: the first time was when I
attended the Vocational rehabilitation Association of Canada’s national
conference in June, 2022 and the second time was when I attended the Canadian
Association of Supported Employment’s annual conference, also in June, 2022.
This gave me an opportunity to compare the two presentations, particularly in
terms of delivery. I am very pleased to say that both presentations were excellent.
Ms. Langdon is an excellent speaker. She not only is expressive; she is able to
quickly engage the audience and hold their interest. She has a broad vocabulary
which aids in the descriptions and information that she provides, and she is also
able to inject humour which can be a difficult thing to do when discussing this
type of information, but the humour was entirely appropriate and also assisted in
holding the interest of the conference attendees.
Ms. Langdon has written a book on her journey through mental illness and
periodically read small and very specific excerpts from the book which expanded
upon and gave added scope to the particular issue being discussed.
What I appreciated most was Ms. Langdon’s description of her journey. She
advised what it was like being a child with a mental health condition and how she
coped and the affect it had on family and friends. When she realized that this
needed to be addressed, she gave a very fulsome discussion of the various
methods of treatment and the medications she took. She clearly outlined what
worked well and what was less effective. What she was describing was a process
and this is most helpful for those who work either in the field or require an
understanding of mental health conditions to assist them in working with clients,
organizations, etc. She outlined the process in a well-organized and structured
manner.
I would highly recommend Ms. Langdon as a speaker for a conference, provider of
a presentation to staff or in any capacity where this information is needed and
would be of assistance.
